The foot or more of fresh makes that run look inviting. I'm sure you killed it. On Skis? We are starting to get into another high pressure funk. What's the surf forecast?

It does look inviting, just not in person

Mammoth Patrol has it listed at 44 degrees. I rode the rideline between that chute (left of pic) down to the mid and then hopped over to the chute on the left and had to launch a few rocks on the exit.

I ski'd boberto

Surf per wetsand = "Saturday the 13th is when our next swell is due. As mentioned in the synopsis above, this should be at least head high, but could be bigger depending on what occurs over the next couple of days."

I need to stay home for Valentines day which I hopefully may celebrate on Saturday then head west on Sunday. Might be a good week. We have a run like that called Milk Run. It's steep, needs to be deep. Good for you, way to chase it.

Good man boberto! Can't miss V-day! Sunday might be the call. You still in retirement or are you unretired?

I'm kinda pussy in my old age. It wasn't really that steep, just got my nerves up a little. There are some runs a mammoth that make that look like a playground. Huevos Grande, Phillipe's, and kiwi flat. I don't think I've hit any of them.

On a side note, I just downloaded an app for my iphone called clinometer. It measures the degree of a slope, pretty accurately too. Can't wait to try it out on a few slopes next time. check it out if you have an iphone.

u the man 1208!

i guess the only difference in recent years is having someone to ride with that challenges you. Riding solo is OK but riding with someone as good or better is the way to go. Gotta find someone to ride with, u moving out?

It was close to 10-12ft where I landed. Pretty soft landing. I think another 3-5' would have put it from fun size to challenging. At least now a days in my mid 30's

I didn't even realize some of the steeps mammoth has. There is some off the charts stuff. I'm not sure how I never made my way over to that side of the mountain. Guess it's cause I was boarding and the peeps I rode with back in the day didn't like that part of the mountain.

Kiwi Flats is no joke (star chute in this pic).... Philippes is actually a cliff launch at the end into the star chute but this pic looks late in the season and it's filled in. Saw a guy launch a solid 12-15' out of Philippes into Star chute this weekend as I was at the base looking up.

WHOA! Yeh, I'd say so! Looks like if you blow it you take a ride over that 40' - 50' cliff line then since everything is pushing to skiers left you get pushed right into that rock wall! Maybe not "you fall you die" but very serious and committing for sure! (That's not to say that you couldn't easily die in that line...) Damn.... Looks like stuff up in British Columbia.
Yeh, that's not stuff I'd wanna ski by myself. It is VERY good to have people of similar or better ability to go out with. We're fortunate here that we've got a lot of locals we ski with and all have their strenghts. Jen and I spent the last 2 weekends following one friend through mogul lines like we've never skied before (our hill almost NEVER has moguls)! We've skied mogus hard our whole lives but In 4 days we learned so much about body position and quickness in ever changing lines! Just invaluable!

Sorry, no plans to move out there in the near future

What a great picture

Nice! I think bumps are my best skill on a mountain. Maybe riding groomers is

I'm not sure I would do Star, maybe Philipe's but once you start the line your committed.

These guys don't speak english but the last ledge he looks over is Star chute Proper. Pussy traverse is over to his left. (that's what it's called )

This is the same area, the 1st guy is a man amongst boyz. Gonads the size of King kong.
He cut over from Philippe's and a back flip front flip at the end to cap it off. Insane.

1208, check this line this guy takes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpE1z_Z9LuQ

sounds like you guys kicked up a few levels on bumps. That guy has it right, the lines shift mid run and adjusting mid stream separates the avg from the guys ripping it.

Luckily I skied killington the most of all my time back east, the place is pretty much 1 big mogul field. Hands down some of the best bump skiers I've ever seen. And a lot of times you'll see them in packs of 8-10 absolutely destroying Outer Limits.

You could easily get 30+ guys destroying the bumps at 1 time in the spring. 10-15 of those guys can be world class caliber. Every year they have a bump off and usually everyone works the same line days or even weeks before the competition. Sometimes they can be as perfect as bumps get with so many guys pointing the skis downhill instead of the people that traverse the trail, that's what ruins the bumps and makes ya need to jump lines.

If bumps are something you guys are concentrating on then I would head to Killington for a weekend. You'll meet a lot of people that rip and you'll have the bumps of any size on any steepness of slope you're looking for

I have a friend that is an instructor at the Bird. He hits stuff like that in the vid. Since I have known him he has had two ACLs, a broken leg, something wrong with his shoulder. I may have missed something, but you get the idea.
We're back to going through the woods looking for something soft and lately jumping off cat tracks I need to start taking pictures instead. I hate El Nino! :

Wow Bob, I'd be honored to know a guy that has the nads to do stuff like that. It's so beyond me and I realize it more and more.

I know I come off as confident on these forums but I truly do realize I'm middle rung on the totem pole on the mountain. I realize what some of these guys can do and it amazes me.

Guys like the dude you know are usually underground names while the Bodie Millers are household names. Hats off to the underground guys that aren't household names. Even if they are big names, hats off to the free riders like that. Terje has blasted some insane stuff on a board, mad respect.

Keep jumping those cat tracks Boberto. But stay safe! I've busted an ACL and left ankle (ligaments not bones) on a few occasions.

Once on a kicker at Stowe VT and once doing helicopters off a small jump, ironically at Stowe. 4+ weeks on crutches each time and out of sports for much longer. Your friend has paid some serious injuries, I hope to avoid. Must be fun living in the mountains and hanging with some of those nuts!

Uhhhh, very, very sick..... Hands sweatting... uncomfortable feeling in my stomach..... chills.... eeeesh...

Saw some xgames guys launching some pretty nuts stuff at Bob's MT. a couple years back - one 50 footer, one smaller one with a cliff below....

"I know I come off as confident on these forums but I truly do realize I'm middle rung on the totem pole on the mountain. I realize what some of these guys can do and it amazes me. "

Some of that stuff... I consider those pilots among the best in the world... I've got no business sharing their skies

I've got a couple titanium rebuilds myself -pushing the limits in the wrong conditions.. I think I've learned to walk away when conditions aren't right - just can't force the issue unless you're willing to risk years of rehab or possibly death. I try to keep it in the "fun" realm

Heard Killington can have some sick bump runs - Haven't really caught it good there.
Canyons is where we go for bumps! To date, consistently the best bump runs we've found anywhere!

EDIT:

Nice, haven't hit canyons. Sounds good though, heard pow days are good too

My inlaws have a place in Winter park, seems bumps are all over Mary Jane (name of the peak). That's all we ever do there are bumps.

I have to tell her dad enough is enough, my back kills after those days. I do 30-40 bumps consecutively and then here he comes slow and steady. I laugh cause he usually beats me even though I go 4 times faster than him but then have to rest

Usually 5+ hours of straight bumps per day

LOL, ouch!

I take two approaches

1) if the slope angle is mellow, I'll go like a bumper - knees locked together, running the troughs - fast.

2) steep runs, I stay out of the troughs and turn on the tops and or backsides of the bumps (still staying in the fallline)- reduces the punishment by 75% at least - maybe 90%

Running troughs for 5 hours..... you'd have to bury me right there at the bottom of the run

I can't wait to go skiing again
